As a first responder, it’s critical to be prepared to face it in your community. People with Alzheimer’s or another dementia can unknowingly put themselves and others in dangerous situations. Understanding the disease is key to ensuring you make the right response. This program will provide details on Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia, including how it affects safety and behavioral responses. We will discuss common situations where an EMT may encounter dementia such as driving incidents, wandering, accidents, and disaster response, and provide tips on how to approach, assess, and intervene with a person with cognitive impairment. |
